A 27-year-old man faces grand-larceny charges after stealing $7,000 in chips from a poker table at Portsmouth, Virginia's Rivers Casino, then grabbing and attempting to flee with $2,600 from a nearby cashier's cage after the cashier turned away while beginning to count the chips.

Troyon Johnson, 27, of Portsmouth, was arrested after a brief chase during the February 27 incident. According to police records, Johnson was quickly spotted by a police office inside the casino, who was joined in the foot pursuit by a plainclothes detective also at the scene.

The two officers tackled Johnson near a casino entrance, though Johnson was briefly able to free himself and make it outside the building. The officers soon spotted Johnson hiding behind some bushes, however, and successfully completed the arrest.

Johnson faces three charges in total from the incident. Besides the grand-larceny count, he faces charges of obtaining money under false pretenses and resisting arrest.

After his initial arraignment, Johnson now awaits his next hearing on the charges, which is set for April 21.
