A 24-day series of tournaments came to a conclusion on Tuesday as PokerStars’ New Years Series (NYS) ended with a bang.

As is usually the case with lengthy PokerStars series, many of the game’s biggest online crushers came out in force - and showed why they’re so highly regarded. One familiar name who made major waves is that of Ole Schemion (pictured above).

Germany’s Schemion has been a force to be reckoned with in live tournament poker for close to 15 years, since announcing himself with an EPT side event win in his hometown of Berlin back in 2011. Since then he’s accrued over $20M in live tournament winnings, along the way picking up hardware at the WSOP, WPT, EPT and more.

Playing at PokerStars under the name ‘wizowizo’, Schemion has enjoyed similar success over the years, and his most recent win came in the $5K (High) Main Event in the New Year Series. The field of 230 was packed with talent, but Schemion was the last man standing to claim the $224,425 up top. Close behind was Renan ‘Internett93o’ Bruschi, who took $171,081 for the runner-up spot.

Lex Veldhuis, Marle Spragg and Blaz Zerjev among the winners

The $1,050 (Medium) edition of the Main Event went to Poland’s ‘DrawindDead’ for $140,670, with the $109 (Low) Main Event title going to ‘blackprecise’ of Belarus who banked $63,330. The Low edition was a mystery bounty event with a top bounty of $100K, which went to ‘buldegah’ of Belgium.

PokerStars ambassadors Lex Veldhuis and Marle Spragg both bagged a NYS title - Velduis in a somewhat underattended 5-Card Draw event...

and Spragg in a 6-Max PKO.

The series also crowned numerous multiple winners, with both Renan ‘Aziz.Mancha’ Aziz and ‘King153246’ collecting four wins apiece. Roman ‘RomeOpro’ Romanovsky and Blaz ‘Scarmak3r’ Zerjev each won three events, with a further 15 players winning two.

The countries leaderboard was comfortably topped by Brazil, with 67 wins, ahead of Ukraine in second place with 25.
