Tis the season for online poker sites to give out some sweet value, as players - in the northern hemisphere, at least - head in out of the cold and onto their laptops, tablets and phones.
PokerStars’ end-of-year celebrations include a new tournament series, a million-dollar ticket giveaway and a special tournament awarding Power Path passes. It’s all part of what the online poker operator is calling New Year Millions.
New Year Series guarantees $35M
PokerStars’ WCOOP and SCOOP tournament series are traditionally some of the biggest to be found online, and the New Year Series is being billed as the site’s third-largest tournament series behind the aforementioned ‘COOPs.
Running from December 22 to January 14, the New Year Series (NYS) follows the format of the ‘COOPs by offering a choice of buy-ins for each event: Low, Medium or High. Altogether the NYS will feature 359 different events, with buy-ins ranging from $2.20 to $5,000.
Satellites for NYS events will run throughout the series, as will special edition Spin & Go tourneys from $0.75.
Some highlights of the series include:
- A $55 Red Spade Open with $500K GTD, December 22, with bounties on the heads of all PokerStars ambassadors
- New Year’s Day tournaments, January 1, with buy-ins of $20.25, $202.50 and $2.025
- Three Main Events, January 12, in Low ($109 buy-in), Medium ($1,050) and High ($5,200) varieties, each of which will have a guaranteed prize pool of $1M
Dedicated Power Path tournament
The Power Path is PokerStars’ loyalty program, giving players the chance to play their way up to live tournament packages or big money online tickets via free daily Spin & Go tickets.
As part of New Year millions, the first ever Power Path tournament will take place: a $109 (or Bronze Power Path ticket) entry tourney, capped at 1,000 players, which will award Gold and Silver Power Path passes to the top 15 finishers, and Sunday Million Anniversary tickets to those finishing in spots 16-165. This special tournament will run December 29.
Million Dollar Ticket Machine
The final part of the festive promo will award a share of $1M in tournament tickets via daily and weekly raffles, each day until January 6. Simply logging in and opting in via the Challenges window is all players need to do to enter the daily raffle.
Additional weekly raffles will award more tickets, and entry to these is dependent on the amount each player rakes in online poker games, as follows:
- Rake $5-$9.99 in a week for an entry to the weekly raffle
- Rake $10-$24.99 for a second entry
- Rake $25-$69.99 for a third entry
- Rake over $70 for a fourth entry
Draws will award Power Path tickets, Gold and Silver Power Passes, Sunday Million Anniversary tickets, and NYS entries.
