One of the most notable absences at the World Series of Poker in 2021 has been Poker Hall of Famer Phil Ivey. Ivey is one of the most popular poker players in the world and is one of the very few players on the planet in the GOAT discussion alongside Phil Hellmuth. Poker fans will finally have the opportunity to see Ivey in action on stream this month, but it won’t be at the WSOP. His appearance will take place on the Hustler Casino Live Poker Show.
The announcement that Phil Ivey would be featured on Hustler Casino Live on Friday, October 22nd and Saturday, October 23rd was made last Saturday. But in a breaking news announcement made this morning, the Hustler Casino Live twitter account announced that Tom Dwan would also be featured on this Friday and Saturday’s broadcast.
Phil Ivey and Tom Dwan have plenty of history
Phil Ivey and Tom Dwan are two of the most entertaining poker players in televised poker history. Their fearlessness and willingness to make huge bluffs and light calls in six-figure pots made them both big fan favorites during the golden age of televised poker, when they were regularly featured on programs like High Stakes Poker, Poker After Dark and the Million Dollar Cash Game. When both players were scheduled to be at the same table it was must-see TV, and fireworks often ensued.
Dwan and Ivey produced the biggest pot in televised history in 2010 in Season 4 of the Million Dollar Cash Game. The blinds were at $1,000/$2,000, with an ante of $500 when Dwan called on the button with a suited seven-six. He was met with a raise to $23,000 from Phil Ivey in the small blind with ace-deuce. Dwan called and the two players saw a flop of jack-four-three. Ivey bet $35,000 and Dwan called. A five on the turn gave both players very well-concealed straights. After a series of bets, they got all the chips in and Ivey was drawing dead in a pot worth $1,108,500 in cash.
These two were also involved in one of the wildest bluffs in television history. Dwan raised preflop with nine-eight suited, and fired three huge bullets with total air on all three streets. Ivey called on the flop and turn as his ace-six of diamonds had flopped a nut flush draw, but missed the flush when the six of clubs fell on the river. Facing a $268,200 bet on the river with only a pair of sixes, Ivey remarkably went into the tank and seriously considered hero calling for a long while before finally making a fold.
Other big names are also in the mix
While the main attraction on Friday and Saturday will be Tom Dwan and Phil Ivey, this table is stacked with some other big names as well. Los-Angeles-based poker pro and stream regular Garrett Adelstien will be there, as will Solve For Why founder and poker pro Matt Berkey. Gal Yifrack will also be in the game fresh off of a third-place finish for $495,000 in the 2021 WSOP Event #38 $50,000 High-Roller event.
Blinds will be set at $200/$400, and tons of money will be on the table as the game will include a $100,000 minimum buy-in. You can catch the action live on the Hustler Casino Live YouTube Channel starting at 5pm PST. Live broadcasts remain on the channel as videos on demand after going off air.
