With the EPT Barcelona Main Event starting today and the Pick 3 fantasy deadline fast approaching, who better to ask for his team than PokerStars ambassador David Lappin?
He’s on the ground in Spain, playing and following the action – and he knows who’s running hot and who’s ready to make a deep run in the big one.
So he’s drafting himself, right?
Wrong. Lappin thinks there are three better picks. Starting with his good friend and podcast co-host…
1. Dara O’Kearney
“He’s a phenomenal Irish player, who is on quite the heater right now,” Lappin tells us. “He’s due a big run in one of these big tournaments.”
O’Kearney has recently taken down a 7-Max High Roller on the PartyPoker Tour, and almost made it back-to-back wins in the €1,100 Seniors event at EPT Barcelona. He finished fourth for €19,220 before making a deep run in the monster PokerStars Open Main Event, where he finished 246/4,333.
2. Jamie Dwan
“Is there anybody hotter than Jamie Dwan right now?” asks Lappin.
It’s a good question. He’s decided to jump into the high rollers for the first time and is crushing them.
He won the $50K High Roller at this summer’s WSOP for $2,276,691 before doing the same in the Super High Roller at GUKPT Coventry. He’s already cashed three times at EPT Barcelona, with ever-increasing prizes: fourth in the €1,100 for €17,480; fifth in the €20K for €58,400 and fourth in the €25K for €107,700. He’s currently 4/13 in the €100K Super High Roller and could take that down today.
Dwan’s confidence will be sky-high at the moment, and he proved that by taking on Nicky P on X.
3. David Docherty
“Just to round my team off nicely… Irishman, Englishman, I’m going to go Scotsman," Lappin says. "David Docherty is one of my favorite people in poker and someone I talk a lot of hands over with. An absolute crusher, I feel like he’s going to make a deep run in this one.”
Docherty knows how to tame a big field. He won the 2023 Irish Poker Open for his career-best score of €365,000. Can he record a new high score in Barcelona?
