In an effort to help stop the spread of COVID-19 at its properties, Caesars is arming a team of sanitization ambassadors with stacks of $20 bills, earmarked for casino goers and poker players looking for more bankroll. The catch? You must be wearing a mask on the casino floor to qualify.
The world-renowned casino resort operator confirmed that its promotions team is waking through many of its properties and handing out $20 randomly to gamblers. Over the weekend, players at Caesars Palace, Paris, Flamingo, The Linq, and Harrah’s were the recipients of a total of $7,500 in giveaways.
The promotion won’t last long, though.
“The promotion would end if wearing masks became mandatory,” said Caesars Entertainment public relations specialist Gia Silvaggio.
Right now, masks are recommended, but not a mandatory requirement in Las Vegas for those walking through a casino resort — or elsewhere in the state. That’s led many gamblers in Sin City to forgo face coverings in an effort to enjoy a more familiar and comfortable casino experience.
Health experts recommend wearing a mask to stop the spread of the coronavirus, but images of reopening day in Las Vegas two weeks ago included scenes of crowds thumbing their noses at masks and social distancing practices.
Those sitting down to play at a table, however, are required to wear masks.
There is a renewed push to require everyone indoors to wear face coverings. In California, for example, all citizens must now cover their noses and mouths in most indoor settings across the state, and outdoors when social distancing proves difficult.
The somewhat lax Nevada casino requirements aren’t being mirrored by other gambling-centric states. In New Jersey, for example, masks will be required at all Atlantic City casinos when they reopen on July 2nd.
With COVID-19 cases surging in Nevada, the state could soon tighten the restrictions and make masks mandatory at all properties.
