The PokerStars Spring Championship of Online Poker (SCOOP) is in the online-poker history books, with Stars' global platform paying out nearly $92 million in prize money throughout the course of the SCOOP series' 2023 run. The SCOOP series' cumulative prize payouts, $91,906,701, easily topped the $75 million pre-series guarantee.
Brazil's online-poker contingent stole much of the 2023 SCOOP's thunder, with Brazilian pros capturing both the SCOOP "High" Main Event and the SCOOP "High" Super High Roller. Brazil’s Felipe "lipe piv" Boianovsky topped a 587-entry field to win the $10,300 Main Event for $1,036,199, while fellow Brazilian Bruno “great dant” Volkmann earned $362,102 for winning the $25,000 Super High Roller.
Boainovsky's and Volkman's victories helped Brazil's players set a new mark for SCOOP titles won in a single series, with 89. That topped Brazil's previous mark of 72 event wins, which was set in 2022. Each of the 2023 SCOOP's 121 events came in High, Medium, and Low versions, meaning Brazil's haul accounted for nearly one fourth of all the event winners in the series.
Other 2023 SCOOP highlights
The series wasn't all Brazil. While Boainovsky won the High version of the Main Event, two other mains were also contested. Latvia’s “rolandinjo” topped a 4,206-entry field to earn $600,640 in the $1,050 SCOOP-M Main Event, and Ukraine’s “Sodaski” took down the $109 SCOOP-L Main, where he bested a huge 22,663-entry field to pocket $232,582.
Great Britain's Benny "RunGodlike" Glaser won three SCOOP events in the series, tying him with Calvin "cal42688" Anderson for the all-time SCOOP mark. Glaser has also earned wins in seven other PokerStars "COOP" events.
Leaderboard races conclude
As is traditional, PokerStars also runs High, Medium, Low, and Overall leaderboard races during its annual SCOOP festival. Thailand’s “Fal1st” won both the Low and Overall races to collect a combined $30,000 in bonus money while also winning two SCOOP events.
