Mystery-bounty tournaments continue to grow in popularity around the globe, both live and online, and PokerStars.com, the global Stars platform, will introduce the format online in early January as part of its upcoming New Year Series.
The New Year Series begins on December 24, 2023, and runs all the way to January 16, 2024, with hundreds of tourneys on tap for all buy-in levels and $35 million in guaranteed payouts. Amid all that, the mystery-bounty format as PokerStars offers will debut on January 7, 2024.
Two separate Mystery Bounty events will begin that Sunday, including a special edition of Stars' famed Sunday Million:
- $11 Mystery Bounty ($250K guaranteed)
- $109 Mystery Bounty Sunday Million Special Edition ($1M guaranteed)
Mystery bounty draws begin once players reach the money
PokerStars' new Mystery Bounty tourneys will follow, more or less, the general format used by other operators and by the Stars-operated European Poker Tour in live events. Half of all entry fees collected will be reserved for the in-the-money finishers according to their order of finish, as in regular tournaments. The other half of the prize fund will be distributed to players in the form of draws done with each in-the-money knockout. PokerStars has yet to reveal what the largest available bounty prizes will be for the two tournaments.
The two mystery-bounty events will be available to almost all players in PokerStars.com's global jurisdictions, with the exceptions of Bulgaria and Czecchia (Czech Republic).
Other big New Year Series events include three New Year Special events on January 1, and three Main Events on January 14, the final Sunday of the series. Almost all events are offered in high, medium, and low versions, and the entire 24-day series offers nearly 500 different events from which players can choose,
