Day 2 of the 2024 WSOP Europe Main Event wrapped up play on Sunday with Germany's Sirzat Hissou continuing to be a force at the top. Hissou, the Day 1B chip leader who entered the event on the heels of a second-place finish in the €50K NLH Diamond High Roller, was again the top story from the action at King's Resort in Rozvadov, Czechia.
Hissou roughly doubled the 657,000 in chips he held at the start of Sunday's play, finishing the evening at 1,353,000 and atop the counts. The field, though, is in close pursuit, as seven other players also bagged over a million in chips. Just behind Hissou is Czechia's own Patrik Jaros, at 1,320,000, and Serbia's Vlada Stojanovic finished the day in third at 1,211,000. Three prior bracelet winners -- Stanislav Zegal, Simone Andrian, and Roman Hrabec -- also finished Day 2 with a top-11 stack, with plenty of star power lurking lower in the counts.
The 185 players still in the battle at night's end were the survivors from 412 players who bagged on Day 1a or 1b, plus several dozen max-late-registering players who entered at the start of Day 2 play. 116 of Day 3's returning players will make it into the money at some point later in the day. Registration for the WSOPE Main Event closed with 768 entrants, resulting in a €7,219,200 prize pool. The winner will collect €1,300,000.
Foxen treads water but moves on
While the day's leaders all surged during Sunday's action, others found the going tougher. One such player was American star Alex Foxen, who began with 389,900 in chips, good for 10th at Sunday's start. Foxen finished with 539,000, a gain in chips but a positional drop to 43rd. Foxen still has plenty of chips to make a move, as does Sweden's Viktor 'Isildur1' Blom, who bagged 529,000 for 46th spot, three places behind Foxen. Blom continues hunting his first WSOP bracelet win.
Other notables who survived the day's action included Martin Zamani (18th), Anson Tsang (27th), Niklas Astedt (49th), Hossein Ensan (88th), Shaun Deeb (89th), Alessandro Pichierri (96th), who denied Foxen a bracelet earlier in the series, Nicholas Palma (102nd), Maria Lampropulos (122nd), and Davide Suriano (140th).
The list of Day 2 bustouts was every bit as impressive. Among those not returning to the Main Event's Day 3 were Omar Eljach, Farid Jattin, defending WSOPE ME Winner Max Neugebauer, Victoria Livschitz, Martin Kabrhel, Jessic Teusl, Day 1a chip leader Darko Svesko, Kristen Foxen, Timur Margolin, Julien Martini, Roberto Romanello, and Vivien Saliba.
