The Lake Erie Poker Room in Elyria, Ohio opened its doors this weekend ahead of an official opening date of June 1.
The membership-based social club will offer daily tournaments and cash games in a relaxed and welcoming atmosphere.
The poker room's opening week offers Ohio-based players several special events to partake in, including a Club & Casino Employee Event on June 2 and a Ladies-Only Event on June 6. Following the Ladies Event, Veronica Brill and WSOP bracelet winner Katie Kopp will host a meet-up cash game. With 30 tables in total, the room will have no shortage of space for grinders and recreational players alike.
'Where community forms'
With a focus on community-building and a player-first approach, the owners of the Lake Erie Poker Room hope to grow the game in the northeast Ohio area.
"You won’t find the typical 2/5 player in a million-dollar cash game or on a stream," reads a statement from the card room. "You will find them at their local card room. Local card rooms are the backbone of poker: they’re where community forms, leagues grow, and regulars hone their craft."
Already, the June schedule at the Lake Erie Poker Room is chock full of daily tournaments with an affordable range of buy-ins.
In addition to the daily offerings, every Wednesday night players can jump into the action in the Lake Erie Poker League to earn points towards WSOP and WPT buy-ins.
Despite a listed opening date of June 1, the cards are already in the air at Lake Erie Poker Room. Over the weekend, 147 entrants ponied up the $100 buy-in for The Opener. Tyler Sims won the event outright, cashing for $4,140 and etching his name into the Lake Erie Poker Room history books in the process.
