Daniel Negreanu is off to a memorable start at the 2025 WSOP. Less than three weeks in, and he’s already made three $10K final tables and come as close as he can get to a bracelet without actually winning one.

His quest for number eight continues, and Negreanu is fighting on all streets. The 30 online WSOP bracelet events might not get as much attention, but they all count for the history books — with your best counting for Player of the Year points too — and Negreanu put in a deep run in Event #9, the $400 buy-in PLOssus PKO 6-Max on Saturday, after busting the (live) $10K Limit Championship in eighth place.

The PLOssus came with unlimited re-entries, and Negreanu took full advantage of that.

As he pointed out on his vlog, “It means we’re going to go crazy... We’re going to be potting it every hand. It’s not even that bad in PLO — even if your hand is bad, it has equity. We’re going to try and get some three- or four-way action, build a really big stack, and then use those chips to build a deep run… It doesn’t matter what we have.”

Daniel Negreanu has made three $10K final tables this summer but is still looking for his eighth bracelet. Daniel Negreanu has made three $10K final tables this summer but is still looking for his eighth bracelet.

Negreanu on bullet time

Incredibly, Negreanu ended up busting 13 bullets without finding a winner.

As he said, “In most PLO pots you play heads-up, you’re going to have pretty close to 40% equity, 60/40 a lot of the time. This is our 13th bullet; we’ve lost 12 straight, some heads-up, some three-handed, some four-handed, not once has the dealer picked me… I just want to win one. This is nuts. 13 bullets… the heck?

The 14th bullet ended up being the lucky one for Negreanu, and he ran up a big stack as late reg shut. “Now we play good, we don’t have to goof around,” he said.

Negreanu’s very aware that unlimited rebuys give players like him and his unlimited bankroll a big advantage.

“Before you say it, I agree with you, I already know,” he said. “This is stupid. I don’t make these rules. If I did this wouldn’t be a thing, but I’m not going to not take advantage of the opportunity.”

Later on he came back to the point and said, “Listen, if it was up to me, every single tournament… you must be there on time, and there would be no rebuys. The most prestigious events in the world. Once the tournament starts, that’s it — you play, and you get one bullet. If you’re not there on time, you ante off.”

Daniel Negreanu has been eliminated from the 100K High Roller 13 bullets without winning a hand? At least the buy-in was only $400.

Negreanu in the money

Back to the PLOssus, and Negreanu eased into the money spots.

He breaks down a number of his big hands in the vlog, including one with [92] that saw him win with a straight on the board. That put him 31/169, and with 82 left, he’d moved up to 5th.

Unfortunately, he didn’t win the bracelet, and the end, when it came, was a frustrating one.

Negreanu had on a board.

“We’re going to gamble. I think he’s got the QJ, but I’m not folding.”

His opponent flipped . “What the f**k,” said Negreanu as the dropped on the river. “He made the flush… Damn. 31st… I actually thought I was going to win this tournament for a second. I really did.”

The beauty of the WSOP is that there's always another one. And for Negreanu, that means the $250K buy-in Super High Roller

“Tomorrow’s a big one,” he confirmed at the end of his vlog, adding that he wouldn’t be there from the start: “We’re going to go when we’re ready.” Ready, as it turned out, was 4.30pm. We'll bring you an update of his progress in this one at the end of the day.

From $400 buy-ins one day to $250,000 buy-ins the next. Only at the World Series of Poker.
