The United Kingdom Gambling Commission (UKGC) has assessed a £672,829 fine against GGPoker parent entity NSUS Limited for what the UK's primary gaming regulator describes as "social responsibility and anti-money laundering failures."

The fine and accompanying official warning was determined by the UKGC last month though only recently disclosed to the public. NSUS cooperated with the regulatory investigation and will not appeal the findings. Fines issued by the UKGC generally include the costs of the underlying investigation a part of the overall penalty.

The United Kingdom maintains a large array of gambling-related protocols and statutes that fall under the general description of consumer protection, and the country is one of the strictest and most closely monitored jurisdictions in the world in that regard. NSUS and GGPoker are the latest in a long line of gambling operators to be penalized for various shortcomings.

In this instance, the UKGC found that GGPoker's social-responsibility shortcomings included the failure to identify and interact with customers who may be at heightened risk for problem gambling. GGPoker was also dinged for being less than diligent regarding known problem gamblers. In one specified instance, the site failed to prevent the mailing of marketing offers to 125 UK gamblers who had already self-excluded from the site.

The investigation determined that GGPoker's "anti-money laundering failures included failing to conduct adequate risk assessments of the business being used for money laundering and terrorist financing, and failing to ensure they have appropriate policies, procedures and controls to prevent money laundering and terrorist financing."

NSUS Limited operates GGPoker in the UK via the ggpoker.co.uk domain and conducts its operations through an office in Dublin, Ireland.
