The World Series of Poker Main Event has played its way down to a final table, and every one of the last nine players has a few important things in common:
- They’ve each just become millionaires
- They all have the chance to win $10 million
- None of them were eligible players in our Pick 3 contest
This means that our WSOP Main Event Pick 3 competition is over!
We asked you to select 3 players in the tournament that would cash more than any other trio, and now that no eligible players can score any higher, there’s just one team left at the top of the leaderboard.
And that team is… DeebsDoubleDs!
As we noted yesterday, the battle for topspot on the Pick 3 leaderboard all came down to Day 8. Five players from our extensive list made it all the way to the brink of the final table, and their fortunes became entwined with those of the top contenders in the Pick 3 contest.
It became clear that the winner would largely hinge on who from Todd Brunson, Shaun Deeb, Dylan Smith and Brock Wilson would go deepest in poker’s grandest live event.
The answer to that question came as soon as Wilson was eliminated in 16th, leaving Deeb as the last point-scoring player still in the field.
He’d soon fall, in 15th, but by then the math was done and the win for DeebsDoubleDs was sealed.
Congratulations to the team owner for making such wise choices!
They’ll be traveling to Aruba this September to play the Moneymaker Poker Tour Main Event, with hotel accommodation, travel and expenses taken care of too.
What made the winning team?
DeebsDoubleDs — which for the sake of propriety we’ll assume is an ironic reference to ‘Drawing Dead’ — not only scored big from the inclusion of Shaun Deeb, but also benefitted hugely from also having Brock Wilson on board.
As you can see in the makeup of the team and each player’s points return, Deeb and Wilson both received an equal payout for finishing 15th and 16th, respectively, as the next payjump didn’t kick in until the 13th spot.
1st. Team DeebsDoubleDs - Final points: 878,450
| Player | Points scored |
|---|---|
| Brock Wilson | 410,475 |
| Shaun Deeb | 410,475 |
| Josh Arieh | 57,500 |
Deeb was a commonly picked player, with 48 of you finding a spot on your team for the former WSOP Player of the Year. Wilson was chosen for eight different teams, but only one had them both.
And at the end of the day, that’s what took DeebsDoubleDs over the line.
Who else has won?
It’s not just first place on the leaderboard that will receive a prize, and while we can’t send 10 of you to Aruba the minds behind the teams finishing 2-10 will also receive some very special prizes including merch from PokerOrg and Faded Spade.
These are the teams that finished in the remaining payout spots (click through to see the players they picked):
- 2nd: CKBWoP (740,475)
- 3rd: JLB (675,475)
- 4th: Rasse team (525,475)
- =5th: BiNks (517,975)
- =5th: Collin Anderson Picks (517,975)
- =7th: Chase Hughey (510,475)
- =7th: imisspoker (510,475)
- 9th: Monkey Island (492,975)
- 10th: Big Al's Locks (480,475)
Finally, a shoutout to the teams Iwinnow and Otoole’s Crew. Each of these scored exactly the same amount of points as 10th placed team Big Al’s Locks, which meant it all came down to the tiebreaker question: How many entries would the Main Event get this year?
The eventual answer was 9,208.
Iwinnow guessed 10,363 (1,155 away), Otoole’s Crew 9,655 (447 away), and Big Al’s Locks 8,880 (328 away), locking up the final spot in the top 10.
All winners will be contacted soon to confirm details of their prize delivery.
Congratulations to all our winners and thanks to everyone who took part!
