The World Poker Tour and the world's largest women's poker organization, the Poker League of Nations, have agreed to a partnership for three 2020 events. All three freeroll events will take place next month on the Club WPT app, the WPT's home for online poker.
PLON members will compete for cash and prizes during the month of October. Lena Evans founded the Poker League of Nations, a women in poker advocacy group that now has 6,800 members worldwide, across 25 countries. The San Diego resident has a strong passion for the game. Beyond running the PLON group and serving as CEO of the Helix Poker Tour, the poker entrepreneur is also the co-owner of Poker Elephant, a poker hand tracking app.
Evans is pretty stoked to expand her group's partnership with the WPT, one of the most recognizable brands in poker. The World Poker Tour, now in its 19th season, has been televised on cable — first Travel Channel and now Fox Sports — since 2002.
"As an extension of these personal alliances, PLON has enjoyed a long-standing partnership with WPT, and we are excited to expand it further," Evans told Poker.org.
Evans had a strong relationship with and was very fond of Mike Sexton, the long-time WPT announcer who recently passed away from prostate cancer. She feels the WPT and PLON are a great fit together.
"I am especially proud of our affiliation because WPT and PLON share a common desire to grow women's participation and success in poker, and we are grateful for the generous benefits and prizes WPT always offers our members," the women in poker advocate said.
Evans referred to the World Poker Tour as "one of the most elite and respected poker brands," and praised the WPT for its promotion of women in poker.
Three events, one month
Poker League of Nations members will compete in three freeroll tournaments next month on Club WPT. The first, October 3, features $1,000 in cash prizes awarded, along with additional prizes from Baccarat Crystal, a World Poker Tour partner. The winner receives Baccarat Crystal Champagne Flutes, while the runner-up will take home a Baccarat Crystal Heart Necklace. To compete in the first event, players must be Club WPT VIP members.
The second tournament, hosted October 17, is available to all PLON members around the globe. The winner of this event receives a special entry into a LearnWPT Digital Lab Experience event. Those who crack the top five at eligible locations will also earn a free month of a Club WPT Diamond membership, and an additional 20 players will get a Club WPT VIP membership free for one month.
The final tournament is scheduled for October 24. Those who sign-up for a trial Club WPT VIP membership or already have one are eligible to compete. Prizes include $1,000 in cash, and the same Baccarat Crystal gifts awarded in the first freeroll, to the 1st and 2nd place finishers.
WPT announcer Lynn Gilmartin and PLON founder Lena Evans (both pictured in the feature image with WPT CEO Adam Pliska) will provide commentary during the first freeroll on October 3.
