Pro tips with Nicholas Rigby: The off-table leaks killing your bankroll

It’s important to plug your leaks – not just at the poker table, but away from it too.

When you're off the felt, there’s a real risk of draining your bankroll on pit games, slots, or even sports betting. These are all leaks, and they add up fast.

I've seen too many talented young poker players lose their bankrolls this way.

The Palms poker room used to sit near the sportsbook and it is now the home of — you guessed it — slots. The biggest leaks in poker aren't always at the table.

The rise of the 'slot squads'

Lately, there’s been a surge of social media content hyping up slots. There are groups of players — or slot squads, as we like to call them — looking to get comps by teaming up on breaks and after tournaments.

Sure, it could be a quick way to get even in your tournament, but more often than not, you're behind the eight ball, and the odds are not in your favor.

My advice is simple: protect your bankroll everywhere.

  • Avoid table games
  • Avoid sports betting (which is my personal favorite). The vig will get you every time
  • Most importantly, stay away from slots

I know we all enjoy watching the Huff N' Puffs reels light up, but trust me – there's a better way to go.

Plug your leaks off the table, and your results on it will follow.
