2021 WSOP: $10k Super Turbo Bounty goes to Romain Lewis

The 2021 WSOP Event #76: $10,000 Super Turbo Bounty No-Limit Hold’em (freezeout) went to Romain Lewis, a Winamax sponsored poker pro from France.

$3,000 of each player's buy-in was put on their own head as a bounty. Whoever sent that player to the rail got to collect that bounty. This event combines the bounty format with both a super turbo (20 minute blind levels) and a freezeout (no rebuys) structure.

The $10k Super Turbo Bounty gives the high-rollers who busted the Main Event something to do while they wait for the smattering of post-ME $50k+ events to roll around.

With 307 players coughing up the five-figure entry fee, the prize pool hit $1,941,775 not including the $921,000 that was in the mix as bounties.

Lewis was spectated at the final table by a Gallic rail of singing (literally) and dancing (metaphorically) supporters. They cheered and sang whenever a hand went Lewis's way.

"We have 30 or 40 really close friends from France supporting this whole series," Lewis explained in his post-game interview. "Every time one of us makes a deep run, there are chants like as if it's a football stadium. It brings out the special elements of the WSOP which don't happen anywhere else."

The final table

Lewis' rail had a real sweat on their hands. He went into the unofficial final table with the second smallest stack of ten. His meager chip stack was dwarfed by that of high-stakes terrors like Dario Sammartino, Rainer Kempe, and Stephen Chidwick.

An early double-up put him back into contention, and he was well into the middle of the pack when Day 1 ended with seven players left.

The next day saw him maintain that middle position most of the way to the end. Once Chidwick busted in 3rd place, Lewis had about 1/3 of the chips in play. His opponent, Aditya Agwaral, didn't keep his lead for long though. Lewis quickly evened the score. Then pulled ahead.

In less than half-an-hour, the whole thing was over. Agwaral put his chips in with the A♠3♣. Lewis called with T❤️9❤️.

Agwaral then had to watch helplessly as the dealer dealt a board of 2❤️Q♦️8♣T♦️7♣. Lewis won with a pair of tens. C'est la vie.

"All the different deep runs I made a couple of years ago, I was so happy with those results," Lewis said. "But when I looked back a few years later, I was like wow bracelets are not that easy. These spots don't come that often. It's been a ten-year dream and I put a five or six-year objective to win one and for it to happen now, it makes me ecstatic it really does."

Agarwal won $286,705 for second place.
