Videogames and marketing are two skills that don’t seem like they fit naturally together, let alone provide the basis for a successful poker career.

And yet…videogames help to hone pattern recognition and strategic thinking, and marketing is all about understanding and influencing how things are perceived. When you think of it like that, perhaps it’s a combo every poker player should be studying.

It’s certainly a skillset that has helped Samuel Mullur in his journey to his first WSOP bracelet: the $25k GGMillion$ High Roller Championship at WSOP Paradise, which he took down for $2.7 million last week.

Aged 19, videogame fan Mullur dropped out of school, not to pursue a poker career but to launch his own marketing agency. That wasn’t to last, but given everything we know about his approach to the game, we’re sure his poker career will.

Player, author, and fellow Grindhouse participant Alex O’Brien caught up with Mullur following his epic win in the Bahamas, exclusively for PokerOrg.

Exclusive insights from the new High Roller champ

In the interview above, Mullur discusses his journey from play-money to high-stakes poker, as well as providing some fascinating insights into a key hand from the tournament he just won.

How would you play A-K offsuit from the small blind against a table filled with elite high rollers? Click here, or skip to 12m05s in the video above, for details of how Mullur thought through the decision.

After just a couple of years on the tournament circuit, Mullur has shot to the top 4 on Austria’s all-time money list. Marketing's loss is surely poker’s gain: we’re looking forward to seeing what happens next for this bright young talent.
