The recent global spike in Covid-19 cases has forced another live poker series postponement. Earlier today, Triton Poker called off, at least for the time being, its upcoming Super High Roller Series Bali 2022. The series was scheduled to run February 17 to March 1, 2022, at the Bali International Convention Centre. Replacement dates have not been scheduled at the present time.
Triton Poker's super high roller series was to include a dozen separate events with buy-ins ranging from $30,000 to two $200,000 main events, one each in no-limit hold'em and short deck poker. A press statement from Triton further explained that increased travel restrictions in Indonesia and surrounding countries, all connected to the worldwide surge in Omicron-variant cases, left Triton organizers little choice but to cancel. Had the series run as planned, it would have been the first live Triton Super High Roller Series since a stop in London, England, in July and August of 2019.
According to Andy Wong, the CEO of Triton Poker Series, "We've been incredibly humbled by the interest our first 2022 event of the season has garnered, however disappointed that current circumstances impedes us from hosting and broadcasting the live Bali tournament. The health and safety of our players, partners and team is always a priority and we look forward to returning to host these exclusive live tournaments to our audiences any time, anywhere with high-level poker entertainment.
Wong also noted that Triton hoped to "supplement the absence" of the Bali series and was working through possible alternatives. The postponed series was to be the high-roller highlight of Southern Hemisphere live-poker events in early 2022; the long-running Aussie Million series in Melbourne, Australia, another early-year locale for high-roller events in the region, remains shelved at the present time.
Planned charity initiatives to be honored
Since its inception in 2016, Triton Poker's Super High Roller Series have also benefited various charity initiatives. Wong stated that the Bali postponement won't curtail those plans. "[D]espite this minor setback, we will be standing by our pledge to proceed with the charitable activation portion of the Bali [series] as promised."
Triton Poker's online landing pages for the now-postponed Bali stop do not indicate which specific charities were to receive aid, though Triton's "Helping Hand" initiative has a strong track record. In 2019, Triton's live super high roller stops helped generate more than $3 million for various charities around the globe. Triton has worked with and supported such initiative as the One Drop Foundation, Caritas Macau, Malaysian Red Crescent, and Raising for Effective Giving (REG), along with several others.
