Event #82 of the 2021 WSOP is the $250,000 Super High Roller No-Limit Hold'em. This is the most expensive event on the 2021 schedule, as there is no $1 million event this year. This event marks the beginning of a run of high-roller events that wrap up the series.
The 2021 WSOP $250,000 SHT field pulled in 33 entries by the end of late-registration closed on Day 2. That create a prize pool of $8,217,000 post-rake, with $3,265,262 set aside for first.
Three-time bracelet winner Adrian Mateos won that $3.2 million, along with his fourth bracelet.
“The most important thing for me is feeling that I’m among the top tournament players,” Mateos told the press after his win. “And that I can compete with the best of the best.”
He added that events like this call for different skill sets. “It’s the same game, but it’s different because you have to adapt. My game is a little bit different in a tournament with a lot of people compared to a small field.
This tourney began on November 18, and ran for three days. This is the first time the WSOP ran this event so there is no prior winner. It also has the lowest rake of any event at just 0.4%.
