Daniel Negreanu makes an argument in this PokerOrg interview that the Poker Hall of Fame should induct more people. He says two players per year and one industry person every three years. His personal picks for 2025 (in the current model) are Nick Schulman the player and PokerStars founder Isai Scheinberg. [Editorial note: the staff of PokerOrg would love to see Scheinberg inducted].
Matt Berkey replied, saying that with the Moneymaker boomers all reaching 40 (the minimum age for induction), two per year won't get anywhere close to admitting the deserving folks. Just off the top of his cleanly shaven head: "...that Galfond, Selbst and Liv aren't even on the short list is... a good indicator that the backlog is already too deep and growing."
Andrew Barber suggested a point system, like Major League Baseball uses.
We think that most people want to all the qualified and deserving people to get into the Poker Hall of Fame. And there seems to be general consensus that the current model is too slow.
- What's your solution to the induction protocol?
- Who would you pick for 2025, given that only one person can be chosen?
- If you could pick five people to go in this year, who would they be?
