Prioritizing fun, engaging training methods, Octopi Poker has grown into one of the premier training sites since its inception in 2024.
On Monday morning in Las Vegas, during the World Series of Poker, they held a breakfast meet-and-greet for members and friends of the site to celebrate its development and tease an exciting future.
Octopi co-founder and high-stakes tournament player Victoria Livschitz emceed the event, offering demonstrations of the site, which includes player-friendly GTO-based modules with a priority on accessibility for poker players of all levels.
Livschitz spoke to PokerOrg about the growth of Octopi over its first two years.
“I’m really happy with the way this project is progressing. It’s a very long play. We have spent years, as I knew we would, and millions of dollars of [research and development] budget to build the right technology.”
She was even more pleased to discuss the site’s rapid evolution in recent months and her pride in its appeal to players of all skill levels.
“You’re going to continue to see incredible speed of innovation. In terms of the product being the one that’s used by the biggest elite crushers and people who are just starting their poker journey, there’s going to be more and more tools and games to keep them interested and keep them progressing and learning the game more and more.”
Have fun learning to crush like Chidwick
Another of the site’s founders and one of the most successful high-stakes players of all-time, Stephen Chidwick, was on hand as well and echoed Livschitz’s thoughts about Octopi being at a breakthrough point in its development.
“I’m really excited that now we’ve got the platform to a point where we can really start to innovate. For the first couple of years, we were kind of playing catch-up, getting all the sims and getting all of the features of a training website that most people have.
"We’ve always had so many creative ideas on how to do things differently and how to build on top of that, and now we’re really just getting to the point that we’re developing very different, creative and, in my opinion, super fun things.”
Asked for specifics of what kind of fun things Chidwick was referencing, Livschitz couldn’t give away any secrets, but promised that Octopi will bring easily engaging content in an area of study — sims and solvers — which can be intimidating to a newer player.
“One thing that we know for sure is that it has to be incredibly fun. It has to be really easy to click the button and say ‘hey, let me try this thing,’ and then get completely hooked by essentially exploring the beauty of the game from the inside out and having a lot of fun with the side effect of actually crushing his home game.”
The Hellmuths and Octopi Poker
Also among the attendees was Phillip Hellmuth III, son of Poker Hall of Famer and all-time WSOP bracelet leader Phil Hellmuth, an investor and ambassador for Octopi.
PH3 told us that he has been using Octopi to boost his game and says he’d tried other solver-based sites, but the appeal of Octopi’s interactivity and its more affordable price point for a wider variety of content were among the reasons he switched.
And when you have a 17-time bracelet winner available to talk poker with, that doesn’t hurt either. In fact, he says, his father’s teachings blend well with what he’s learning from Octopi.
“Aside from just talking to my dad, this is where I’m getting a lot of my GTO-related information. I get advice from him and look at [Octopi], and it overlaps more than you’d expect.
"He’ll be like, ‘Oh, you’ve got to fold that here.’ Everyone else is raising that here, and I’ll check, and the solver will actually tell me to fold 90 percent of the time. So hopefully they’re picking up on what makes him good.”
