The Million Dollar Game (MDG) on Hustler Casino Live is one of the most-anticipated cash game events of the year and, since its inaugural outing in 2023, has been held on an annual basis each spring. Back in March, HCL announced that the multi-day, nosebleed stakes game would return to its livestreamed airwaves with MDG regular Alan Keating as the headlining act.
It appears as though that's no longer the case, however.
On April 21, HCL unveiled plans for Mega Cash Mania – a $500/$1,000 no-limit hold'em cash game with side games and a $100,000 minimum buy-in set to run May 14-15.
"This event will be in place of the Million Dollar Game originally scheduled for May. An announcement on the 2026 MDG will be made very soon," the announcement concluded.
It's unclear at this juncture if the MDG is merely postponed or cancelled altogether.
Mania over Millions
While the Mega Cash Mania game certainly holds great promise, there's not much to differentiate it from one of HCL's standard High Stakes Friday games. In prior iterations, the MDG featured a minimum buy-in of, you guessed it, $1M. With blinds regularly exceeding $1,000/$2,000 and lineups rife with players who love to battle, the MDG provided no shortage of record-breaking pots and insane hands.
The Mega Cash Mania games will feature stacks and stakes a fraction of that size. And the lineups, well, let's just say they leave a bit to be desired.
Keating will be in the mix – that's a good start – but the other names included in the announcement aren't exactly massive draws.
Phil Hellmuth was in talks to make a debut appearance at the 2026 MDG. With the change in plans, that possibility feels unlikely.
On the other hand, HCL's producer/co-owner Ryan Feldman has proven time and time again that he knows how to put together an action-packed lineup.
With more players still to be announced, Feldman still has time to pull a rabbit out of the hat.
And if the lineup works, the game should too – if the cards cooperate, that is.
