How should people prep for the summer grind?
The WSOP is both a physical and mental challenge. The days are long, and it's easy to get out of rhythm.
I believe it's prudent to get your health and mindset in top shape. That means exercise, meditation/visualization, or some spiritual practice, as well as a healthy, clean diet.
From a tactical perspective, study the strategies at various stack depths, review ICM play to position yourself well if you run deep, and know your preflop strategy, including shove and re-shoving.
Realize it's a marathon and not a sprint. Check in with yourself daily to see how you are feeling and what you need to do to get or stay in flow.
For my entire pre-game routine that I used to finish 11th in the 2023 WSOP Main, check out my full blog here or watch the video below.
What event are you most looking forward to playing?
The Main Event of course! When I turned 30, I set my intention on making the final table within the next decade. I was so close last year and would love to give it another shot. I believe there's always something I can do to improve, and I learned a lot during my 11th-place finish in 2023. I'm excited to put that new knowledge to the test.
What's the biggest event you will play?
I only play the Main. Last year, I flew into Vegas a day before it began, so I could put all my energy into it.
In the past, I played a long series of tournaments only to find myself burned out when the Main came around. My dream as a kid was always to win the Main, and I know if that's to become a reality, I need to save my energy and focus. It's at the top of my poker bucket list.
