Big bucks are at stake in the six remaining 2021 tournaments on the Mid-States Poker Tour, totaling at least $1.5 million.
The next MSPT event kicks off Friday at Riverside Casino in Eastern Iowa, a casino that has become a popular spot for MSPT action in the past year. Play began at 3 pm local time Friday, and the $1,100 buy-in Iowa State Poker Championship Main Event guarantees at least $200,000 in the pot. But given how successful MSPT events in general have been the past couple of years, especially in the state of Iowa, there's a strong chance that guarantee will get smashed.
Day 1 includes two sessions, the second beginning at 3 pm July 24, with the final day scheduled for Sunday. Players start with 25,000 chips and the winner will take home a trophy, along with a bunch of money.
Heading to Colorado
Less than two weeks after the Iowa stop concludes, the tour is heading West to Black Hawk, Colorado, a gorgeous small mountain town outside of Denver. More specifically, the Bally's Black Hawk Casino, for another $1,100 buy-in two-day Main Event with a $200,000 guaranteed prize pool. The series starts August 4, and the Main Event begins August 12 with the same structure as the Riverside tournament, except there will be three Day 1 starting flights — one in consecutive days.
Five days after the party ends in Colorado, the MSPT will travel back to Iowa, but this time up in the far Northwest corner to Larchwood, a town right on the South Dakota border. Grand Falls Casino will host a $200,000 guaranteed tournament from August 20-22. Same $1,100 buy-in with 25,000 starting chips and two Day 1 starting flights.
Back out West
The Mid-States Poker Tour will again move outside the middle states for a West Coast mid-stakes poker tournament dubbed the United States Poker Championship September 23-26. For $1,100, players can compete for a piece of a $300,000 prize pool in this two-day event at Sycuan Casino Report in beautiful San Diego, California.
Up next on the 2021 MSPT schedule is a stop in Deadwood, South Dakota, a hidden gem for poker in the Midwest. The Main Event October 22-24 guarantees at least $100,000 in the pot at Silverado Casino.
The 2021 MSPT schedule then concludes December 9-12 at Canterbury Park, one of the most legendary poker rooms in the Midwest, in Shakopee, Minnesota, a town about a half hour from Minneapolis. The Main Event structure isn't yet available, but we do know the tournament promises $500,000 in cash prizes.
