The latest episode of Poker Weekly with Nick Schulman on SiriusXM hit the radio waves over the weekend.
In the fourth installment of a six-episode run on the platform, Schulman tapped two high-profile guests. Lucas Jumalon returned to the show for a second consecutive week, only a few days removed from his $10M victory in the 2026 World Series of Poker Main Event. GGPoker Ambassador and legend of the game Daniel Negreanu joined in on the fun as well.
Through the first twenty minutes of the episode, Schulman and Negreanu peppered Jumalon with questions about a few of the hands he played at the Main Event final table. The Spokane, Washington native explained his thought process in each of the selected spots and shared unheard insights into moments that will live on in poker history – including the defining moment of his win.
And then Negreanu took center stage – first providing listeners with a bit of his poker backstory before launching into a story about his first bracelet win back in 1998.
'I won like $4.5 million'
Negreanu also talked through his legendary string of results in 2004.
For the younger generations that might not know, Negreanu racked up well over $4M in tournament earnings. And he did so in an era of poker when five-figure buy-ins were far from the norm. In one of the most dominant runs ever seen, Negreanu won both the World Poker Tour and World Series of Poker Player of the Year honors. Card Player Magazine also awarded him its Player of the Year title.
It was a career-defining year that perfectly coincided with the game's rampant boom in popularity and propelled Negreanu to poker superstardom.
Schulman took a moment to give him his well-earned flowers.
"It's hard to fully explain the kind of stranglehold you had – just the way you went about your business was very inspirational," Schulman told him. "It can only be born of your life and all of your experiences. I just think it was sick and, you know, you're a hero of mine. And I think the fact that you're still playing on a high level... it's very cool. I really appreciate you coming down, Dan, I really do."
"I'm glad I did," Negreanu replied. "I think if you're introspective and you're humble enough [you] realize some people are better than you. And if you don't get to that point, then you'll be surpassed.
"2004 was the only time where I felt like I am the best at this. I won like $4.5 million – the biggest buy-in was $10K."
Schulman's tilt texts
In the episode's closing moments, Schulman read off a few messages he had sent to their mutual friend Eric Wasserson about eliminations suffered at the hands of 'Kid Poker'.
