Poker world champion Chris Moneymaker won for the first time on his namesake tour when he took down the $300 Mixed Omaha tournament at MGM National Harbor on Tuesday.
The Moneymaker Tour, founded in 2023, is making its first visit to MGM National Harbor. Its Mixed Omaha event drew 70 entries and Moneymaker took home $5,195 after a three-way deal at the end.
'Have you won one?'
Chris 'Lefty' Land was on hand to ask him about the big win and how it feels to "finally" grab his namesake trophy.
"First of all, Lefty, it's not a finally. I finished the job. I've come close several times, but poker tournaments are hard. It's not like you just show up and win one every time. Have you won one?"
Lefty, who has just over $16K in earnings according to The Hendon Mob, does not have a win listed among his seven cashes since 2008.
"Maybe one day we'll say finally, but it takes a different caliber to win a Moneymaker trophy and I am of that caliber now, and you never will be. It's funny when you say finally. Poker tournaments aren't easy to win. I'm over here proving that I have what it takes and maybe one day you will have one too."
Nothing compares to a Moneymaker trophy
Moneymaker has 16 wins, according to his profile on The Hendon Mob, with the first coming in the 2003 WSOP Main Event. The champ had more than $1M in first-place earnings in 2024 and over $8M on the books in his career.
"If I had to rank my trophies, I would say the WSOP Main Event barely is above this. This is definitely #2 because it has a really cool logo and a cool name on the wall. And it's a cool trophy. People have rings and watches and bracelets but none of it compares to the Moneymaker trophy."
So, what's next for the champ now that he has conquered his own tour?
"For now I can retire and the pressure is off, because I finally won."
