Poker documentary series are like buses. And not just because they’re often filled with nonconformists having one-sided conversations about themselves.

No, it seems you wait and wait for a new poker docuseries… and then two come along at once.

Hot on the heels of last week’s much-awaited debut of No Limit — the fly-on-the-wall story of the 2024 World Series of Poker (WSOP) Paradise festival — comes a new docuseries from GGPoker with a focus on high stakes games and those who make their living in them.

And as the series title — Online Poker Millionaires — suggests, the doc will examine the online game rather than live poker, as well as players who have enjoyed significant success at the digital tables.

Episode 1 is available from Wednesday, November 12 on GGPoker's YouTube channel.

‘Pwndidi’ first up

Each episode of the series will tell the story of a different player who has found fortune playing online, and the first instalment will follow Alex ‘Pwndidi’ Theologis of Greece (pictured above).

Theologis, who recently claimed victory in the EPT Malta €100K Super High Roller, made his biggest score of over a million dollars at GGPoker during the 2021 WSOP Online.

There he defeated a field of 255 in the $25K NLH bracelet event to claim the $1,212,033 first prize and take his place among that elite band of players to have recorded a seven-figure win online.

Ahead of his episode dropping on Wednesday, Theologis will join Jeff Gross as a guest commentator for Tuesday’s live broadcast of the GGMillion$ event, and will be taking part in an ‘Ask me anything’ session on Reddit this Thursday.

Alex Theologis was the first player out at the final table, but went on to pull the $400,000 top bounty during the Event #3: $40,000 Mystery Bounty NLH drawing. Theologis drew the top mystery bounty of $400K at a Triton event in Monte Carlo last year.

The latest from POKER Films

As with No Limit, which was produced in association with the WSOP, Online Poker Millionaires has the backing of a major poker brand thanks to the involvement of GGPoker, with episodes available at the operator’s YouTube channel.

The production company behind the series is POKER Films, a name which may be familiar to fans thanks to its back catalogue of projects in the same vein.

Dan Sepiol took down the tourney for a career-best result. The Ultimate Stack followed a series of players, including winner Dan Sepiol, during the WPT World Championship.

These include the WSOP-focused Bracelet Hunt, released earlier this year in a feature-length format, as well as the excellent The Ultimate Stack, which covered the 2023 WPT World Championship. Both projects were directed by Michael Bailey, who once again takes the helm for Online Poker Millionaires.
