[Update: This story has been updated following confirmation from Resorts World Las Vegas]
It has been officially confirmed that the poker room at Resorts World is set to close for good in just a few weeks.
Chris Murray, organizer of a regular game at the room, shared the news on Thursday.
Murray went on to say that all poker room points would need to be spent by the time the room closes.
The WPT's Matt Savage responded, saying, "Sad news, some good people to hire soon elsewhere, hopefully."
Resorts World Las Vegas has since confirmed that the poker room will close on March 30.
The news follows all-too-soon on the back of another closure on the Strip. The poker room at Planet Hollywood was shuttered just a couple of months ago, less than a year after its reopening.
Various reactions to the post highlight the high quality of the room but the low numbers of players.
Testing times
As we reported in November, a question over the feasibility of the Resorts World poker room has been hanging over the site for some time.
In late 2025 the heart of the issue seemed to be whether Resorts World would continue operating a poker room via a third-party, or close the room entirely. That decision has now been made.
The venue was due to host the Mixed Game Festival this month, but the series was pulled after its host, Robbie Strazynski, was unable to travel due to the ongoing military action in the Middle East.
The room's closure comes at a time when live poker faces significant pressure from forces such as the new US gambling tax laws. Meanwhile, card rooms in California may soon be feeling the effects of a ban on blackjack.
Over in Texas, in an unrelated incident, a high-profile card room operated by Doug Polk, Andrew Neeme, and Brad Owen has just been raided by the Texas Alcoholic Beverage Commission.
It’s fair to say that live poker in the USA has seen better weeks.
Which is not to say there aren’t positive stories coming out of the live space. The WSOP Circuit Hammond Main Event crowned a new surprise champ just a few days ago, while Daniel Lowery added an incredible 20th Circuit ring in Tulsa last weekend.
Plus, WSOP Europe heads to a new home in Prague at the end of March, and all signs point to a return to the big time for the festival that began in 2007. You could even be there yourself – win a Main Event package in our free-to-enter prize draw.
