The countdown to the 2024 World Series of Poker is on. Each day until the start of the series on May 28, we'll bring you tips and insider info from some of the biggest names in the game.

Jeff Platt is a broadcaster, PokerGO sideline reporter, and one of the faces of the WSOP. He's also hoping to win a bracelet (or two) himself this year. You can follow Jeff on X/Twitter.

How should people prep for the summer grind?

You need to have a game plan for everything you do off the table. It's easy to set a schedule of tournaments you plan to play. It's much more difficult to ensure your sleep, fitness, and nutrition are all in line.

Does the hotel or Airbnb you're looking at have a good gym? How much time do you need to allot to find a healthy breakfast before you play? What's your plan for the dinner break? You want to set a schedule to follow, so the only thing you have to focus on is poker. You can start getting that schedule ready NOW

Also, try your best to prepare yourself for an emotional roller coaster. Everyone goes into the WSOP with huge hopes and dreams, as they should, but the reality is that most of the time, you're just going to get beaten up at the table. Remind yourself that there will be ups and downs; this will help with your level of tilt should you take a bad beat and/or lose a big pot.

Finally, GET EXCITED. What a privilege it is to play at the World Series of Poker. Don't take the "too cool for school" approach.

What event are you most looking forward to playing?

I'm really looking forward to returning to the WSOP Main Event as a player. The details still need to be finalized, but my plan is to BOTH play and continue in my role as one of the Main Event sideline reporters. I'm so excited to play in the greatest tournament in the world while being fortunate enough to continue with my favorite job.

What is the biggest event you will play?

The Main is the biggest event I'll play financially, but I’m also looking forward to firing multiple $5k events for the first time this summer. If my work schedule allows, I'll be playing in the $5k Champions Reunion event to kick off the series and the ultra-challenging $5k Six-Max event as well.
