Malaysia's Lee Wee Liew claimed his second APT title when he took down the first event at APT Jeju on Saturday night.
In the process, he denied China's Zhiyi Wang back-to-back Korea National Cup titles. Wang won the same event at this venue in September 2025.
Liew took a 4:1 chip advantage into heads-up and it proved too much for Wang, who had to settle for second place at LES A Casino.
After winning a Baby Lion Trophy in the Short Deck Triple Chance 6-Max event at APT Manila in 2024, Liew added a Silver Lion Silhouette Trophy to his collection today – and he was delighted.
“I won a small trophy back when I played in a smaller tournament, but this one feels like my true breakthrough," he told reporters after his win. "This is my first trophy from a mid-sized event. It feels super cool, though it’s surprisingly heavy!”
Fast start, fast finish
Sometimes it feels like a win is written in the stars. Liew started off fast in the Turbo Day 1C flight on Friday, making a royal flush before ending the flight with an average stack and advancing to Day 2 alongside 66 other players.
It only took four hours on Saturday to whittle the field down to 16 players, and Liew's momentum was building. He started the final table as chip leader. Just one hour later, he was the champion.
En route to the trophy, Liew made quads and eliminated two players – Bo Edengren and Gary Moon – in sixth and seventh.
With three players left, Liew had 61% of the chips in play. He then eliminated Furui Wang to take a commanding chip lead into heads-up.
He sealed the win when he called Zhiyi Wang's all-in with pocket threes. Wang had K-6 and couldn't find either of his overcards on the runout.
