Florida's Martin Zamani has been named the Global Poker Index's Player of the Month for August on the strength of a series of deep tournament runs on both sides of the Atlantic in recent weeks. Without logging a major win, but making the final two tables in five different tournaments, Zamani amassed more GPI leaderboard points in August than any other player.

Zamani's big August came via his play in two major series during the month. In the early part of August, he stayed close to home and played in several events in the Seminole Hard Rock Poker Open (SHRPO) in Hollywood, Florida, just south of Miami. In less than a week, he logged a sixth-place finish and back-to-back 14th-place showings, cashing for nearly $90,000 across the three events.

From there it was on to Europe for Zamani, to take part in the EPT Barcelona festival in Spain. Zamani began by taking third place in the series' Estrellas Cup Main Event, collecting €463,250 (US $518,559) and 359.27 GPI leaderboard points. He stayed hot in the next event he played as well, picking up an eighth-place score in the € 8,760 + 540 + 3,000 NLH - PokerStars Cuatro Knockout tourney.

The finish in the high-roller Cuatro Knockout let Zamani edge past Ren Lin and Clemen Deng for August's top spot. Zamani finished the month with 1,107.31 GPI points, while Lin had 1,039.64 and Deng had 1,021.80.

Zamani maxed out his five GPI points-earning slots for the month, as did Lin and two other players in August's top 10, Duff Charette and Donovan Dean. Zamani also cashed for roughly $630,000 in August, moving his recorded career winnings to nearly $4.5 million.
