What do you do if you fancy a change from online no-limit hold’em? Not everyone’s a hold’em specialist, but for those who are - and need a little variety in their diet - pot-limit Omaha (PLO) is a common solution to this first-world problem.
More cards, more draws and big pots are among the attractions when it comes to PLO, not to mention the fact that fewer players have studied it and know its intricacies.
To broaden the game’s appeal even further, 888poker has today launched 5 and 6-card variants of PLO in its cash game lobby, along with a raft of time-limited promotions to help fill those new tables. Scroll down for all the details you need to know.
Is PLO 5/6 just Omaha with more cards?
Short answer: yes.
If you know how to play Omaha, you'll know how to play PLO5 and PLO6. Instead of four hole cards, depending on the variant you choose you’ll receive five or six. Everything else is the same: players must use exactly two hole cards to make their best five-card poker hand, only now they’ll have more to choose from.
Betting remains pot-limit, and the cash game stakes currently available range from 1c/2c to $5/10. PLO5 and PLO6 tournaments are not yet part of the offering.
Standard four-card PLO games are still available.
Top hat and monocle optional.
$20,000 in freeroll prizes, extra rakeback and more
To support the launch of the new variants 888poker is hosting six freeroll tournaments awarding a total of $20,000 in combined prizes, plus an additional freeroll which will award two live event packages.
- A weekly $2,000 freeroll is available for any player who plays 150 hands of PLO5 or PLO6 each week from Sunday to Saturday, running every Saturday for five weeks, starting on November 16.
- On December 21 another freeroll will run, this time awarding $10,000 in prizes and available to those who have won 300 hands or more playing the new games by December 14.
Up to December 14 players also have the chance to receive additional rakeback from PLO games - including standard PLO, PLO5 and PLO6. Every day in which a player rakes at least $1 playing these games, they will receive a rakeback prize of up to 100% the following day, with prizes selected using a virtual spinner.
Finally, two 888poker LIVE event packages will be awarded in a special PLO Rakeback Freeroll in December, date tbc. The top two finishers will each be offered a choice of packages for live events taking place in 2025. To qualify for this freeroll players must rake $500 or more playing PLO, PLO5 or PLO6 cash games by December 14.
