ACR Poker ambassador Katie Lindsay enjoyed a great WSOP this summer, final-tabling the Mini Main Event and finishing eighth out of 10,794 entries for $114,260. Lindsay also reached the final table of a $1,000 WSOP Online Bracelet event, finishing eighth for $13,858, and made a deep run in the WSOP $777 Lucky 7s, placing 28th for $17,860.
With the Vegas grind behind her, Lindsay now has her sights set on ACR Poker’s $10 Million GTD Venom tournaments, which kick off August 10. We caught up with her to reflect on her summer and look ahead to the Venoms.
Looking back at your WSOP run this year, what’s your biggest lesson or takeaway?
This WSOP was the best of my career. I had two final tables and two other deep bracelet runs as well. I accomplished a lot of goals this summer and felt really good about my game. It's inspired me to keep grinding and working on my game because the feeling of success was so rewarding.
If you could replay one decision or tournament from WSOP, what would you do differently?
It's funny you ask... I can’t stop thinking about the last event I played, the $777 Lucky 7s event. I came 28th but I really regretted the way I played my final hand, where I busted with a flush draw. It was weird to have such a successful summer but then be brought down by one decision in my final event. All I can do is learn from that hand and my decision-making and try to grow from the experience.
Is there anything from your WSOP experience that might inspire players heading into the Venoms?
Believe in yourself and have fun! Those were the two big things I carried with me this summer and it really helped.
What do you like most about mystery bounty events?
You always want to focus on building a big stack — it's so important to cover on Day 2 [when the bounties kick in]. I love the format because it requires a lot of aggression.
What are you most looking forward to in both the Venoms?
Hitting the top bounty, of course!
What are your top tips if someone's playing the Venoms for the first time?
Look for good spots, situations and positions to be able to build your stack up. But mainly, have fun and play well!
The first starting flights for the PLO and NLH Mystery Bounty Venoms take place on Sunday, August 10 at 12:05pm ET on ACR Poker. More chances to play Day 1s will follow each Thursday and Sunday up to August 24, before the Day 2s take place on August 25. Both final tables will play out on August 26.
