Thankfully this year’s World Series of Poker was mercifully free of the technological controversies that dominated the conversation at the end of last year’s WSOP Main Event.

While phones were still a highly visible presence on the tables and rails of most tournaments in Las Vegas this summer — barring feature tables or tournaments nearing their climax — there were few to no accusations of solver use or the type of technology that corrupts the purity of the game.

But as many poker organisations will attest, this is not a problem that has been resolved for good. As technology continues to advance (and shrink in size), detection is going to be more challenging and more important than ever.

Will we soon see a time when more steps are introduced to detect, limit, and even ban technology from the poker tables?
