The World Poker Tour's lineup of poker festivals for its ongoing Season XXII has grown by one with the addition of a brand new stop in Northern Cyprus, in the eastern Mediterranean Sea. WPT Prime Cyprus will mark the tour's first-ever visit to Cyprus, with the WPT Prime Cyprus Championship in August.
The newest WPT Prime festival will be held August 15-26, 2024, at the Chamada Prestige Hotel & Spa in Kyrenia, just off Northern Cyprus's Mediterranean coast. The venue has hosted numerous poker series in the past and will now welcome the globetrotting WPT to its list of visiting poker tours.
The five-star destination resort is able to provide the WPT with a 50-table layout, including an elevated stage likely to be used for final and feature tables. The 12-day series will be highlighted by the stop's Championship event, which features a $1,100 buy-in, offers $1 million in guaranteed prize money, and begins on August 22. The full slate of events has yet to be released.
WPT CEO Adam Pliska was pleased to be able to add the Cyprus stop to the second half of the WPT's current schedule, which already includes series on four continents. “As we continue our globetrotting mission to spread poker around the world, we’re proud to introduce Cyprus to the 2024 schedule,” said Pliska. “The great Chamada Prestige will host the first-ever WPT venture in the beautiful island country.”
Chamada Prestige Group founder Murat Şahin offered a warm take as well. "Welcome to our oasis of elegance, where every hand is dealt with hospitality and every stay is a winning hand. Enjoy the high stakes of luxury at our hotel, where every guest is treated like a royal flush.”
