On software depth, game variety and the tournament calendar, PokerStars remains the reference point in online poker. The catch is twofold: the welcome bonus is a slow, rake-locked drip rather than instant cash, and the games are tougher than at softer rivals. And in the US and Ontario you are no longer joining PokerStars proper — you are joining FanDuel’s poker product, with a smaller ring-fenced pool and a newer client that drew a mixed reception at launch.

Licensing comes from the regulator’s own register — the UKGC public register, the New Jersey DGE, the Pennsylvania Gaming Control Board, the Michigan Gaming Control Board and iGaming Ontario — not from the operator’s marketing. Bonus mechanics, rake and rewards come from PokerStars’ published terms, read in full. Pool and traffic figures come from independent trackers rather than from the operator’s own announcements.
We also tell you what we don’t know. Where PokerStars hasn’t published something we won’t estimate it, and where a figure moves — bonus amounts, guarantees, cashout windows — we say so and tell you to confirm it at sign-up. That matters most here because PokerStars is no longer one product. It is still PokerStars proper in the UK, on the global .com pool; in the US and Ontario it has traded as ‘PokerStars Exclusively on FanDuel’ since spring 2026, on FanDuel’s platform and a ring-fenced pool. We verify each market’s operator, license and pool separately rather than assuming the classic experience carries over.

This market is mid-restructure. Flutter launched the PokerStars Network in August 2026 and Betfair Poker went live on it on 13 August as “PokerStars on Betfair”; Paddy Power and Sky Poker are expected to follow later in 2026, and PokerStars’ own UK players are due to be migrated onto PokerStars at Betfair later in the year. What we do not yet know: whether the UKGC licensee changes, and whether UK liquidity stays in the .com pool afterwards. Neither has been confirmed, and we are not going to guess — check this before it matters to you.
PokerStars in United Kingdom
The UK is where you still get PokerStars proper — the same client, the same global .com pool, no FanDuel rebrand. That matters, because the .com pool is one of the largest in online poker, behind GGPoker, and it feeds the richest tournament calendar in the game. That is changing shape, though: see the note above on the move to PokerStars at Betfair.
It is not the PokerStars of a decade ago: the cash base has roughly halved since 2022, and the games are dense with regulars. But for tournament choice and prime-time liquidity there is still nothing else like it in a UK-legal room.
Traffic & liquidity — United Kingdom
UK players sit in the international .com pool, so the 8–11pm GMT window — prime time for UK grinders — is the busiest of the day, with several thousand cash seats occupied across stakes. GGPoker leads global cash traffic and PokerStars is among the largest pools behind it; the .com cash base has roughly halved, from ~4,000 concurrent players in late 2022 to ~2,000 by mid-2025.
The UK plays in the large international .com pool — not ring-fenced — so tables stay busy around the clock and you get the flagship Sunday Million, WCOOP and SCOOP. Since August 2026 that pool also carries Betfair’s poker players, who moved onto PokerStars software as the first brand on the new PokerStars Network.

You are no longer on the standalone PokerStars NJ client; you play on FanDuel’s platform, in a combined tri-state field, with the biggest liquidity in US regulated online poker.

The standalone PokerStars Ontario platform closed on May 7, 2026 and relaunched inside FanDuel on June 5, 2026. Old accounts did not transfer — balances were returned by cheque and you create a new FanDuel account.
PokerStars in Ontario
Ontario is the hardest market to call. It is North America’s largest single regulated poker jurisdiction (~15M residents), but it is walled off — FanDuel’s Ontario pool combines only the former PokerStars and FanDuel Ontario players, and cannot merge with the US tri-state network or the global pool.
The relaunch was also genuinely disruptive: a roughly four-week blackout, cheque refunds, and brand-new accounts. At launch, mid/high stakes and fast-fold viability remained thin while the pool settles.
Traffic & liquidity — Ontario
Ontario is a ring-fenced market, so fields are smaller than on the global .com pool. GGPoker is the clear traffic leader among Ontario operators; FanDuel has not published a post-launch concurrency figure for its PokerStars pool. Independent launch coverage flagged that the highest-stakes games are unlikely to run regularly and that fast-fold (Zoom) viability is uncertain until the pool grows.
Ontario is walled off to Ontario players only — no shared liquidity with the US or global pools — so fields, high-stakes action and fast-fold viability are thinner than on PokerStars’ international pool. The Ontario Court of Appeal held in November 2025 that international pooled liquidity is lawful while iGO keeps operational control; the Supreme Court of Canada hears the appeal on 7 October 2026, and Flutter is among the parties. Nothing has changed for Ontario players yet, and we make no prediction about the outcome.
Tournaments in Ontario
The Sunday Million is not part of the Ontario product. The marquee Sunday events are the new Sunday Dynasty and Sunday Shield, plus a launch No Sweat freeroll series. Larger legacy ring-fenced series (ONSCOOP) sit on the wider calendar; their carry-over to the FanDuel schedule isn’t yet confirmed. FanDuel hasn’t published firm guarantees for the new Ontario schedule — confirm in-client.

The desktop client (Windows and Mac) is the backbone of the experience: it handles heavy multi-tabling, works with the main HUDs, and offers deep customisation — the tool of choice for grinders, even if its richness can overwhelm newcomers. The mobile app is well rated, handles several tables at once and, while it doesn’t support external HUDs, compensates with built-in stats.
One market caveat: the US and Ontario products moved onto a new FanDuel-operated client in 2026. Hands-on reports say it keeps the PokerStars look and feel with lighter FanDuel branding, but the transition was bumpy and drew bug complaints — worth factoring in if you are a returning US or Ontario player.
