Massive field trims down to final eight
The $8 Million Guaranteed Venom kicked off with the first of four opening day flights on Jan. 22. Day 1A and Day 1B (Jan. 24) combined to draw 1,431 total entries for the biggest guaranteed prize pool tournament in the history of online poker in the U.S.
Day 1C commenced the following weekend, and by the completion of all four Day 1 flights the field finished up at 3,774 total entries. That attendance pushed the final prize pool to $9,435,000.
That $9,435,000 gives the current edition of The Venom the second-biggest prize pool ever awarded for a WPN tournament. The August 2020 chapter of The Venom still holds the No. 1 spot on that list, with $9,680,000 awarded in that event.
The $8 Million Guaranteed Venom stands as the fifth chapter of WPN’s flagship $2,650 buy-in tournament. The $8,000,000 guarantee stands as the largest guarantee ever offered by WPN, or any U.S.-facing online poker tournament.
The Day 1 survivors returned for Day 2 action Monday, with 596 players coming back for a shot at the payout ladder. By night’s end, the field whittled down from 596 to 65 players.
Tuesday’s Day 3 flight saw the 65 remaining players compete for spots at the eight-handed final table. Day 3 action broke for the night when the field trimmed down to the final eight.
