The Deaf Poker Tour will be coming to Philadelphia for its 51st series this week. The Live! Casino and Hotel will be hosting the seven tournaments that will culminate in a $200 main event. The tour has hit up Las Vegas, Atlantic City, and even Baltimore, but this is its first stop in the City of Brotherly Love.
The events start on Thursday, May 12, 2022, with the final event taking place on the evening of Saturday (May 14, 2022).
On the Thursday, there will be a PLO tourney to kick-off, followed by a satellite in which players can win a block of tickets — one for each of the remaining events excluding the Ladies' Event.
Chris McCall tweeted about the event, "Fun weekend ahead @LivePokerRoom w/ @deafpokertour in town this weekend! Great opportunity to build relationships w/ the deaf community."
Most of the events will be closed events with entry being limited to deaf and hard of hearing players, (or in some cases players who can sign ASL). However, the final event additional players for the final event, a $120 bounty event, will be open to everyone.
The organizers are expecting around 100 players to attend.
The hotel and casino floor will have sign-language interpreters on hand along with writing materials at every table to help with communication. Additionally, all the dealers will have learned, or already know, some ASL in order to run the games.
Anne Tran, Director of Poker at Live! Casino & Hotel Philadelphia expressed her excitement at getting to host the event.
“We’re thrilled to host The Deaf Poker Tour for their first tournament in Philadelphia," Tran said in a presser. "It is truly inspiring to see so many people with an affinity for the game communicate in a different way than we’re used to in the Poker Room.
"The tournament provides us with the opportunity to bridge the gap between the hearing world and the Deaf community and we’re very proud of it.”
