4Poker, the online poker provider founded by Bryn Kenney, could start 2024 by having to cover the overlay in two of its big Mystery Bounty tournaments. Both the $270 buy-in, $1,000,000 GTD and the $22 buy-in, $100,000 GTD Mystery Bounty tournaments are on track to fall short of the registration numbers required to meet the guarantees.
Currently, the $22 Mystery Bounty sits at 3,881 total entries across all Phase 1 events with 310 players still awaiting Phase 2 action, creating a prize pool overlay of $21,480.
At the same time, the $270 Mystery Bounty has amassed a total of 2,760 entries through its Phase 1 events with 242 players advancing to Phase 2, creating a prize pool overlay of $310,000.
Both tournaments will start Phase 2 shortly, but there are still opportunities for players to get in on the high value spot. There's still time to jump into one of the final Phase 1 events or get lucky in one of the site's All In Flip events. Additionally, players can accumulate stacks in these events as they go, allowing for them to bring multiple Phase 1 stacks into Phase 2 play.
These events represent big tournaments for 4Poker, a site that has struggled to gain ground amidst the somewhat saturated market of online poker providers. If the events fail to meet the guarantee, the value for those still in the tournaments skyrockets. If 4Poker honors the guarantees and dips into their own pocket to make up the difference, that struggle might lessen.
