Foxwoods Resort Casino out in the green parts of Connecticut is getting a makeover for its 30th birthday. The anniversary plans involve the expansion of the property, cash giveaways, and refurbishments to the bingo hall and entrance.
Founded in 1986 as a bingo hall, Foxwoods became a casino in 1992. When Foxwoods opened its theatre in 1993, its first act has Frank Sinatra doing it their way. It has only got bigger from there.
Now Foxwoods is a full-blown integrated resort. It currently has a golf course, a go-kart track, six casinos, four hotels, two theatres, two bus stops, a 59-store shopping mall, and forty restaurants including one founded by Guy Fieri.
And now, of course, it's adding a water park.
Great Wolf Lodge at Mashantucket will be a huge new indoor water park resort covering 15 acres of land next to the current Foxwoods complex. Great Wolf Lodge is set to open in 2024. Along the way, Foxwoods CEO Jason Guyet says they aim to announce "new restaurants and new experiences every month."
In the announcement presser, Guyet added, "Today marks the beginning of a spectacular yearlong celebration, and we look forward to welcoming guests of all ages to experience the wonder of it all."
Not everyone is thrilled with this development. Some folks are concerned about the environmental impact of filling in fifteen acres of the countryside with concrete and chlorinated water.
Guyet, however, is focusing on the positives.
Constant changes
"This year marks an incredible milestone for Foxwoods and the Mashantucket Pequot Tribe," Guyet said. "Not only is it our thirtieth anniversary, but it is our most significant year of evolution, innovation, and development for the property to date, and we're just getting started.
"As we look ahead to the next chapter of Foxwoods, and as we continue to get better every year, I am proud to celebrate this milestone alongside The Mashantucket Pequot Tribal Nation, Foxwoods team members, our beloved guests, and the local community."
The other major changes within the complex are to the bingo hall which is being gutted, refurbed, and turned into the 75,000 square foot Rainmaker Expo Hall. A new and improved high-stakes bingo hall will be opening elsewhere on the property this spring.
Foxwoods is also spending a great deal of money on promotional giveaways including $30,000 a month to charity (for the rest of 2022) and $30,000 a day to customers (for this week only).
It doesn't look like all this will have too much impact on the 54 table poker room. This room has been host to big poker events including events on the WPT and WSOPC calendar. Though players at Foxwoods will want to keep an eye on whether or not they're eligible for the cash giveaways.
