Event #35 of the 2021 WSOP is the $500 Freezeout No-Limit Hold’em tournament. This two-day event started on October 18 with 30-minute blinds throughout. It is a new event on the 2021 WSOP schedule.

When the dust settled, first timer Anthony Koutsos stood above the rest. The event was a no-limit hold’em freezeout. That means no rebuys were allowed. The 2,930 entries were each distinct players Koustos managed to outlast.

The player wasn’t anywhere near the lead at the end of Day 1, with 132 players still in play. That changed during the course of Day 2 play. Most of the big names had hit the rail by the end of Day 1. Barry Greenstein, Greg Raymer, Scott Ball,  Ryan LaPlante, Kelly Minkin, Kathy Leibert, WSOP commentator Jamie Kerstetter, and Bertrand “Elky” Grospellier, all failed to cash.

Poker players looking for their chance to win a WSOP bracelet at a lower buy-in did well to circle this week on their schedules, with the $800 8-Handed Deepstack scheduled on Sunday and this one scheduled on Monday. This is one of only four bracelet events with a buy-in of $500 or less alongside the Casino Employees tournament, the Reunion tournament, and the $400 COLOSSUS.
