Event #78 of the 2021 WSOP is the $10,000 Razz Championship. Lowball games are often considered one of the purest forms of poker. As such, the $10k Razz Championship is the most prestigious stud-only event on the calendar each year. The prevalence of drawing hands in razz makes for an exciting game of mathematical precision.
For some, a tournament like the $10k Razz Championship presents a shot at redemption. It's a chance to get free from all the buy-ins earlier in the series that fell short of producing a significant cash.
When all was said and done, Benny Glaser went home with his fourth bracelet and the first-place cash prize of $274,693.
Phil Hellmuth and Erik Seidel were two of the big-name pros who ran deep in this event. Hellmuth came away with yet another cash in a hugely-successful 2021 WSOP campaign. John Monnette had a great run in the series also, with six cashes before this event, including a bracelet in Event #16. When he hit the rail in third, he set up the heads-up battle between Benny Glaser and Everett Carlton.
On the final hand, Glaser’s nine-six got beneath Carlton’s ten-eight to give him the win and his fourth WSOP bracelet.
Razz fields have been shrinking over the years, creating a small field of serious pros. 2019’s champion was Scott Seiver. This tourney began on November 16 and ran for four days, including one day of overtime.
