Event #80 of the 2021 WSOP is the $3,000 6-Handed Pot-Limit Omaha. This tourney began on November 17, and ran for 4 days. This year, pot-limit events had a big-blind ante from the first round of blinds, but that didn't count towards the pot until the flop.
Robert Cowen, an experienced tournament grinder from Swansea, Wales, took home his first World Series of Poker gold bracelet when he won Event #80 of the 2021 WSOP, $3,000 6-Handed Pot-Limit Omaha. Cowen's victory in one of the last PLO events on the 2021 WSOP roster netted him a cash prize of $280,916, which is the biggest live cash of his poker career.
Cowen's win in a 496-entry field came after his deep run in the Main Event. He made it to Day 6 in the ME, hitting the rail just shy of Day 7's last 36 players with a 39th-place finish that paid him $163,900. The two scores make this a best-ever WSOP for Cowen. He's been a regular player in the WSOP since 2016. His latest bracelet win pumps up his career live earnings to over $900,000. Over half of that figure has come at the WSOP.
Typically, this event is a favorite of visiting Europeans. However, with U.S. borders closed, attendance was expected to be low this time around. In a surprise upset, attendance remained strong. Last year’s event went to Alan Sternberg of New York, this could be a good year for keeping the title in the U.S.
