More than 1,200 entries push prize pool to $354,590

How big will the attendance numbers for the Prime Social Summer Series go? The $1 million Main Event is still about a week away, and will play as only the second $1 million guaranteed tournament in Texas poker history.

The first event on the Prime Social Summer Series schedule wrapped up over the weekend, however. If the turnout for the No-Limit Summer Kickoff offers any indication, the latest live tournament festival offering from Houston’s booming poker scene should mark another successful chapter.

Prime Social poker club began its current series with a $360 buy-in, $200,000 guaranteed tournament. Officially labeled the No-Limit Summer Kickoff, the tournament drew 1,202 entries by the end of registration, with the prize pool finishing up at $354,590.

Twitch streamer Alex “AlexOptional” Green came away from the large field with the championship, securing $45,600 for the win. Runner-up finisher Sami Foued Benjima (2nd - $45,000) took home a similar payday, per the terms of a heads-up deal between the final two players.

Summer Series off to a fast start

The Prime Social Summer Series is set to host 16 tournaments. The Houston social poker club kicked off the festival on May 20, and the series finishes up on June 6.

The No-Limit Summer Kickoff certainly kicked off the series on the right foot. The $360 buy-in tournament played out May 20-22, with four Day 1 flights and $200,000 in guaranteed prize money.

Green came into final table play in the middle of the back, fifth in the chip counts. Linh Nguyen (3rd - $28,000) began the day with the chip lead, and rode that stack to a third-place finish.

Other final table finishers included Cody Stafford (4th - $20,890), Tzu Yen ($15,750), and Curtis Cavazos (6th - $12,010). Nathaniel Kogel (7th - $9,260), Aaron Gilespe (8th - $7,220), and Sal Lakhani (9th - $5,690) rounded out the finishes at the nine-handed final table.

The $360 Summer Kickoff event played out as one of four tournament offering a six-figure guaranteed prize pool at the Prime Social Summer Series.

The biggest of those tournaments is set for June 2-5, in the form of an $1,100 buy-in, $1,000,000 guaranteed Main Event. The last time Prime Social ran an $1,100 Main Event, the club put the guarantee at $500,000, but the final pool ended up at $1,079,000.

We know that the latest Main Event put forth by Prime Social will award at least $1,000,000 this time around. The actual prize pool could end up well north of that mark, however.
