Huge guarantees at GGPoker, PokerStars headline a big weekend for online poker
The first full weekend of November brings in several big-money tournaments in the online poker realm. The GGPoker Battle of Malta offers a pair of $2 million guaranteed events, and the EPT Online festival kicks off on PokerStars.
Here's a look at what's coming up this weekend from two of the world's biggest online poker sites:
GGPoker Battle of Malta
The $30 million guaranteed Battle of Malta kicked off at GGPoker earlier this week, marking the first time in the nine-year history of the series that it runs as an online-only festival.
Two of the biggest guarantees offered across the 15-event series play out on Sunday. Event #6: $5,250 High Roller Championship presents the largest buy-in of any tournament in the series and comes with a $2 million guarantee. The High Roller Championship will likely draw a field of big names from the GGPoker roll call of high-stakes players.
Another big tournament continues Sunday in the Battle of Malta as well, with Event #7: Siege of Malta in full swing. After multiple Day 1 flights, players surviving opening day action come back Sunday for Day 2 in the $215 buy-in, $2 million guaranteed tournament.
Sunday's action will see the tournament money bubble burst, and play until the final table combatants are determined. The final table then resumes Saturday, Nov. 14, and plays down to a champion. Streaming coverage of the Siege of Malta final table will go out on the GGPoker.TV network.
PokerStars EPT Online
The COVID-19 pandemic halted several live events on the European Poker Tour 2020 schedule, but the EPT Online brings the festival to PokerStars' online platform for the first time. The 2020 EPT Online kicks off Sunday with a schedule that mimics the live version of the event.
The EPT Online Series wastes no time getting right into the big money events. The festival starts off with Event #1: $1,050 Arena Championship, which offers a $1.5 million guaranteed prize pool. Only the EPT Online Main Event and Super High Roller offer bigger guarantees, and the Arena Championship will likely draw one of the biggest fields of the series.
Also on the slate for Sunday is Event #2: $10,300 PLO High Roller. The high-stakes Pot-Limit Omaha event offers a $500,000 guarantee and plays as one of two PLO events on the EPT Online Schedule.
Event #3: $5,200 High Roller, rounds out the trio of tournaments that begin Sunday. The $500,000 guaranteed No-Limit Hold'em event plays as one of three $5,200 buy-in events on the EPT Online schedule.
The 2020 EPT Online runs Nov. 8-17, with the series Main Event ($5,200 buy-in. $5 million guaranteed) beginning Sunday, Nov. 15.
