Tiger Woods's TGR Foundation held a charity poker night last night as part of Tiger Jam.
Tiger Jam is billed as the "ultimate Vegas experience," involving two days of golf on Vegas's Shadow Creek course "with dynamic experiences on and off the course including live music, an interactive golf exhibition, special guests, and all-inclusive hospitality."
The weekend's events are sponsored by DraftKings. The aim of the outing is to raise money for the TGR Foundation. This foundation raises money for educational programs that help students in under-resourced communities.
However, the centerpiece of Tiger Jam is the charity poker tournament held at the MGM Grand and hosted by the World Poker Tour.
Among the poker royalty who attended the charity poker tournament were Phil Hellmuth, Daniel Negreanu, Maria Ho, and Vince Van Patten. Other attendees came from the world of business, golf, and philanthropy. Woods himself was also in attendance, along with several of the people who had benefited from the TGR Foundation's work.
Hellmuth shreds Tiger
Hellmuth posted a short video from the event, where he talks to Tiger Woods on the casino floor. Tiger has little to say, but Hellmuth makes up for it.
"I'm gonna shred you on the mic," Hellmuth says.
"Shocker," is Tiger's laconic response.
Hellmuth tweeted the video with the caption: "Started off my MC job now at #TigerJamPokerNight [...] Tiger appreciates a good needle! I’m proud of Tiger: his @TGRFound has changed the world by changing hundreds of young people's outcomes."
Negreanu's review of Hellmuth's performance was rather less laudatory than Hellmuth's own. The two entered into a minor spat after Hellmuth blocked Negreanu on Twitter. As a result, Hellmuth will have missed Negreanu's commentary.
"I’m at #TigerJam and @phil_hellmuth opened the festivities with a roast…without any actual jokes," Negreanu wrote on Twitter. "But he did tell us he had more titles than Tiger! Everyone was really impressed."
The more-titles-than-Tiger-Woods joke is an old horse in the Hellmuth stable and goes in and out of fashion as the lead passes from player to player.
Hellmuth may not have impressed Negreanu, but Kid Poker seemed to have fun at the tables at least. Photos from the event show him punching the air with a glass of white wine in front of him.
Perhaps the pair can put this all behind them soon.
