If it seems like it was just a few days ago that you heard news of Parker ‘Tonkaaaa’ Talbot winning another WCOOP title, that’s because it was. The HORSE Championship ended on Thursday evening with a win for Talbot worth almost $22K, making 2024 the fifth year in a row that PokerStars’ Canadian ambassador has claimed a WCOOP title.
Talbot had never won multiple titles during a single series, however, and all but one of his wins had come in small fields of under 100 players.
That changed on Sunday night after a second series win for ‘Tonkaaaa’ in WCOOP Event 32 (High) - $1,050 NLHE PKO. A field of 441 created a prize pool of $441,000 - outstripping the $400K guarantee - and Talbot finished top of the pile for over $72K including bounties.
Runner-up ‘ShipitFTW911’ - who also finished runner-up in last year’s WCOOP Main Event - and third-place finisher Niklas ‘Lena900’ Astedt also made the podium.

No rest for double-winner Talbot
Talbot’s two wins this week, coupled with the fact the two runners-up mentioned above are both on his team, has put Team Tonkaaaa in with a great chance of winning the WCOOP League - a contest which will award freeroll seats to those who bet on the winning team via PokerStars’ sportsbook.
As he mentioned in his tweet, Talbot will start the week by returning to Event 39 (High) - $2,100 5-card PLO as the short stack in 14th place (of 14), but having survived the bubble has the $4,706 min-cash locked up. Denis ‘aDrENalin710’ Strebkov (below) leads the field during the overnight break, with eyes on the $51K top prize.
Talbot is also already in the money in Event 38 (Medium) - $1,050 NLHE PKO, where action paused for the night with Adriàn ‘Amadi_017’ Mateos way out ahead with a stack double the size of his closest competitor ‘dennysramos2’ of Brazil, with fellow Brazilian Yuri ‘theNERDguy’ Dzivielevski close behind in 3rd place. Talbot has a stack good for a top 10 spot out of the 41 players remaining, and has already bagged over $3K in bounties. The prize pool for this one, factoring in bounties as well as traditional payouts, totals $1,084,000.
Play in both the above events resumes today in the early afternoon (ET).
