It was less than a week ago that Niklas ‘Lena900’ Astedt added two WCOOP titles to his impressive resume in the space of two days.
It was not his first time winning in PokerStars’ World Championship of Online Poker. In fact, it wasn’t even his 12th.
Wednesday’s win was number 13, and Thursday brought 14, bringing the Swedish legend within reach of Britain’s Benny ‘RunGodlike’ Glaser’s all-time record of 16 titles.
That record became a little harder to reach as of Monday night, when Glaser extended his lead at the top of the WCOOP leaderboard with yet another victory.
Glaser is well-known in the poker community for his ability to excel in pretty much any variant of poker. It was those skills that propelled him to victory in the prestigious Poker Players Championship at the WSOP this past summer, and so it proved once more in the WCOOP $1,050 8-Game Mix.
56 entries created a prizepool of $56K, and Glaser walked off with the lion’s share: $21,400. In doing so he bested a final table that also included established online crusher ‘ShipitFTW911’, who settled for 3rd.
Glaser has now won 17 WCOOP titles in an incredible career, as well as 12 wins in the Spring Championship of Online Poker (SCOOP) and 9 WSOP bracelets.
And he’s not the only big name live player cleaning up in the online streets this week.
Leonard, Schemion and Dwan all cooking too
As well as Glaser and Astedt, Patrick ‘pads1161’ Leonard was also a WCOOP winner this week, as the Brit took his career tally to 14 with victory in the $530 Deepstack over the weekend. The win, in a field of 194, was worth $19,838 and keeps him near the top of the all-time charts.
Another face we’re used to seeing at the live tables, Germany’s Ole ‘wizowizo’ Schemion, added a further WCOOP title of his own on Sunday night with a win in the $10,300 PKO High Roller worth $63K in regular prize money and a further $76K in bounties.
Also making the final table was the global football icon Neymar, who ended up out in 8th place, short of the money. Jamie Dwan, who is enjoying a purple patch recently having cashed 8 times at EPT Barcelona — including 6 final tables and 2 event wins — snuck into the money in 5th place for $31K.
Dwan then struck again with a win of his own in the $2,100 PKO, for another $57K and a 4th ‘COOP title of his own.
The previously mentioned Schemion, who has over $22M in live tournament earnings and two WSOP bracelets, will be back in action on Tuesday night over at GGPoker, as he has made the final table of the $400 WSOP COLOSSUS event.
This beast of a tourney drew a field of 16,445, with the final 9 all guaranteed a minimum of $94K. Play will resume at 8pm CEST on Tuesday, with Schemion sitting in 7th place.
Matt Vengrin of the USA has also made the final table, and is currently in 4th place, wiith Brazil’s Roberto Filho holding onto the top spot overnight.
The winner will receive the bracelet, $752K and a $30K WSOP Paradise package.
