On Friday evening, Dan 'Jungleman' Cates took his seat at the Hustler Casino Live set for a $50/$100 game – dressed to impress in a Napoleon Dynamite costume. Throughout his many appearances on the show, Cates has repeatedly displayed the traits within his game that have brought him so much success across his career. And this latest session was no different.
It was a short-handed game – only six players in the mix – leaving nowhere to hide.
In a pot against Nik 'Airball' Arcot, a friendly adversary of Cates' and one of the show's most-active participants, 'Jungleman' put on his hero-calling cape (not literally, he remained dressed as Napoleon Dynamite for the entirety of the stream) and made a queen-high hero call for the ages – but was he correct?
'Oh boy, that's highlight reel'
With the Nit Game in play, it was Mariano Grandoli who kicked off the action, raising to $500 from the button with . Cates called from the small blind with
and Arcot followed suit with
– both eager to win the pot so as to avoid the $2,700 hit. As Sam 'Senor Tilt' Kiki regaled the table with a story about his come up in the high stakes poker scene, the dealer spread the
flop.
In short order, each player checked and the materialized on the turn – providing Arcot with an open-ended straight draw. Cates checked his queen-high for a second time and Arcot quickly fired $4,000 into the $1,800 in the middle. Grandoli took a moment to consider a call, but eventually sent his cards into the muck. Cates, on the other hand, wasn't ready to wave the white flag just yet and made the call to bring in the
river.
Cates checked for the third time and Arcot dialed up another overbet – $16,000 into the $9,800 pot. Kiki chattered on about chartering a "Drake-sized" 747 airplane to take to him and the other "degens" to Cyprus as Cates thought long and hard about the spot. As Kiki's monologue trailed off, Cates tossed in a call.
Arcot smiled and tapped the table, prompting Cates to reveal his queen-high hero call.
"Queen-high? You called queen-high?" Kiki asked, no longer focused on his plans for mile-high mayhem. "Oh boy, that's highlight reel."
Sheepishly, Arcot double-checked his cards and then sent them back to the dealer without showing.
"Jungle, I'm down now. I gotta go," Arcot said as he slid his chips to the dealer for a color up.
"Do you want to use my subscriber code?" Cates asked Arcot, referring to the GTOWizard patch emblazoned on his "Vote for Pedro" t-shirt. "Code Jungle"
"How about Code Kill Myself?" Arcot countered with a laugh.
