How to avoid the WSOP ban on electronic devices this summer

The WSOP announced its updated 2025 rules this week and Rule 64 attracted plenty of attention. One of its subsections states that all electronic devices are prohibited from the final three tables onward this summer.

That includes all electronic devices — not just smartphones.

However, there is an exception to this — if you’re playing in an online bracelet event on WSOP.com.

PokerOrg Player Advisory Board member Ari Engel first raised the question on X. He asked the man who usually knows — Kevmath — but was advised to email the WSOP directly.

Keep your phone if you're playing online

We took up the cause for Engel, reached out to the WSOP and have had the answer confirmed. If you’re playing an online bracelet event, you are allowed to retain and play on your device.

That may cause issues with other players who have had their phones removed. But it is possible to police this and ensure the player involved is using his device solely for playing online — and not looking up a spot on GTO Wizard. It might just not be great optics.

But the official rule is this: no devices from the final three tables on... unless you’re playing in an online bracelet event.

PokerOrg will be on the floor from the start of the WSOP to the very end and we’ll be watching for any players deep in a live event while also grinding online. If we spot anyone pulling it off, we hope it’s Ari!
